EMPLOYMENT: Ebonyi Assembly alleges marginalization of indigenes in FG agencies

EBONYI State House of Assembly yesterday raised alarm over alleged lopsided employment of Ebonyi indigenes into federal agencies and parastatals in the state. The House which made the observation during plenary directed the House Committee on Rules and Establishment headed by Hon. Nkemka Onuma representing Afikpo South West constituency of the state to investigate the matter and report to the House. Moving the motion on matter of urgent public importance, the member representing Abakaliki south constituency, Hon. Luke Nkwegu called for investigation into the mode of employment of Ebonyians into the Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo and Federal Polytechnic, Unwanna alleging that only a section of the state was favoured in the exercise. The House also ordered the probe of the projects executed by former Governor Martin Elechi. It further constituted a 9-man adhoc committee headed by the Deputy Speaker,Hon. Odefa Obasi representing Onicha East Constituency. Setting up the committee, the Speaker of the House, Hon. Francis listed the projects by the former governor for the probe to include; centenary city formerly known as Ochu-udo city and the internal roads in the city. Others are the international market and the internal roads, Sharon/Iboko road, Offerekpe, Ukawu and Ezillo Water Schemes,Kpirikpiri/Nwofe road, Offerekpe/Offenakpa road, World Trade Centre among others. Nwifuru directed the committee to summon all the contractors that handled the projects and submit report within two weeks.
