Nnamdi Kanu can meet with Ohaneze; that is him exercising his freedom of association. What he cannot do is subscribe to their ideology. Let us not forget that Nnamdi Kanu is leading IPOB made up of human beings with the ability to reason; not a drove of cattle. If Nnamdi Kanu has not achieved anything, he has created monsters, in the positive sense of the word, that anyone who wants to derail the quest for total independence of our people would have to contend with.
Ohaneze's idea of restructuring as a panacea for all the ills plaguing Biafrans in Nigeria is a Herculean task, to say the least, so long as such attempt is made based on the fraudulent 1999 constitution. Although as many of us as possible should read the constitution in its entirety so we can engage in conversations intelligently, let me take liberty to post Chapter 1, Part 2, Section 9, Articles 1 - 3 of the 1999 Constitution:
"(1) The National Assembly may, subject to the provision of this section, alter any of the provisions of this Constitution.
(2) An Act of the National Assembly for the altertion of this Constitution, not being an Act to which section 8 of this Constitution applies, shall not be passed in either House of the National Assembly unless the proposal is supported by the votes of not less than two-thirds majority of all the members of that House and approved by resolution of the Houses of Assembly of not less than two-thirds of all the States.
(3) An Act of the National Assembly for the purpose of altering the provisions of this section, section 8 or Chapter IV of this Constitution shall not be passed by either House of the National Assembly unless the proposal is approved by the votes of not less than four-fifths majority of all the members of each House, and also approved by resolution of the House of Assembly of not less than two-third of all States."
Why would it be impossible to restructure Nigeria based on the 1999 constitution?Let's go back to the 1953 census conducted by the Colonial British Government for the answer. In that said census, Britain rigged the counts in favor of the north by giving them 51% of the population against 49% for the entire south. This has been the basis of the representation at the federal level as well as the basis for state and local government creations.
Without mincing words, restructuring Nigeria will not favor Northern Nigeria. As Nigeria is currently constituted, the North has 19 out of the 36 pseudo-federating states. This amounts to about 53% leaving the South with only 47%. How on earth will anyone dream of having two-thirds (67%) of state houses of assembly approving any restructuring proposal? We must therefore reject, outrightly, the fraudulent 1999 constitution and press for a United Nation's mandated and supervised Referendum so we can collectively decide the course of our future.
All hail Biafra!
